Why Your Support is Needed

Residents in the Cedar Valley have always held high expectatioons for their community. They understand the imporant role, KBBG, as a black radio station plays in the economic, social and aesthetic development of a community.

KBBG was started in March of 1977 by Jimmie Porter. Since then, the radio station has enriched the lives of the listening audience by promoting community harmony, diversity and inter-cultural awareness.

When KBBG began broadcasting in 1978, the station could reach an audience in a five mile radius, used 10 watts of poer and had a staff of volunteers.

Today, KBBG-FM is a station on the move.

The station now reaches an audience within a 60 mile radius, uses 10,000 watts of power and has a staff of eleven employees. KBBG not only reached, but exceeded its Capital Campaign goal of $495,000 in 1998 to build the new station on Newell Street. Since 19988, KBBG has provided over $2,245,000 in Public Service Announcements for non-profit organizations in the area.

While KBBG has made great strides in the past, plans are to make even greater ones as we enter into the 21st Century. Plans include more public forums on current issues, live productions, and a wider variety of educational programming and communication classes.

This is why KBBG was established - to accept, administer and distribute gifts and bequests so that a legacy can be left to continue the exciting and challenging work begun by its founders.
